DMD (Dolphin MoDel) files are a plaintext representation of a 3D model file. Pikmin's 'plugTexConv' can import these files successfully, and even export Pikmin 2's down_floor_3.dmd
to the .mod format.
In Pikmin 2, a single spare DMD file can be found called down_floor_3.dmd
. The contents of it confirm that Maya Binary 3D model files were the source. Some speculation implies that DMD is an intermediary file format for conversion between Maya 3D model formats and proprietary model formats used by Nintendo (e.g. Pikmin 2's J3D BMDs or Pikmin's MOD).
